User Info: zerobobo. Zerobobo 8 years ago #3. Yeah forced third person. Though i can see why, both werewolf and vampire lord have big weird models, so first person it'd be easy to get your silly wing, or huge werewolf arm stuck on a doorway or something and not knowing what was going on. Gamertag: Clonedzero. Manbeast fixes these issues in a couple of ways. For one, you have some passives in human form, and you can unlock more with the Werewolf perk tree. This includes Weakness to Poison, which ESO introduces as the major downside of werewolves (it's also a nice way to differentiate werewolves from Vampires mechanically).
I believe you are asking how to feed on people in the Vampire Lord form in order to get 'essence' towards your vampire perks. The way to do this is to hold the attack button (the way you would do a power attack) when you know the next hit will kill them (this is in melee mode). This usually works when the person falls to their knees and begs.

Vampire Lord Perks
Here's a list of the Vampire Lord perks: link. It doesn't show the whole tree diagram, but that may not be important like it is with other perks. From what I've read in other previews it sounds like these perks are unlocked automatically as you kill, not by gaining levels and manually selecting the perks you want. 76.181.65.128 04:06, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
- Good link, and that is correct, perks are unlocked as you kill.--JIGSAW 4 11:57, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
- Those abilities are amazing, these better be real and the vampires we original had were...disappointing, pity these can only be accessed in a form where you get attacked by everyone. Does anyone know if the reversed feeding system (getting weaker when you feed) is going to be reversed so you get stronger when you feed? Jigsaw mention perks with each kill so that is good at least. Mr.Scryer. 19:55, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
Corpse curse?
There is an ability named 'summon gargoyle' which obviously summons a gargoyle but how come it says 'Corpse curse' summons a gargoyle too? is this correct? i read somewhere that it paralyses enemies.--JIGSAW 4 14:34, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
- It's mostly speculative at this point, but I changed the wording for some of them. The Silencer has spokenTalk 15:10, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
Vampire Grip
In an E3 interview with Todd Howard, there was some new footage showing a vampire lord in action. When releasing the Vampire Grip, the affected NPC would be thrown back, similar to how objects get thrown when releasing them from Telekinesis. Would this be worth putting in the description next to the spell? — Unsigned comment by Kolensk (talk • contribs) at 04:34 on 10 June 2012
- No, these are the descriptions of the perks that are to appear on the perk tree, not a description of what the perk does. The Silencer speaksTalk 03:57, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks. I'm kind of new at this, so I wasn't sure.--Kolensk 05:17, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
First Person or third?
Forgive me if this is already an answered or known topic but does transforming into a vampire lord allow one to remain in the first person? Or is it just like lycanthropy, where you are forced into third person view? Mr.Scryer. 217.137.157.197 23:08, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Well, the werewolf is forced third person so the vampire lord is more than likely to be forced third person aswell.--JIGSAW 4 14:41, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Thank you Rim, very interesting, though I would have preferred an option to play in the first person view, though coping with third person is easy as I do not dislike it. Mr.Scryer.
- No problem, maybe Bethesda will release a patch after a few weeks if enough people want first person? RIM 12:39, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
- The majority of players do indeed play in the first person. In a way, being forced into third person view allows players to have a different experience but the option to choose would be nice. We will just have to wait and see and speaking of, these damn weeks waiting for Dawnguard is going painfully slower than usual. 217.137.157.197 12:52, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
- I've had exams for the last 2 weeks so it was fine for me :). Now it's only 11 days though so it isn't too bad. I personally prefer 3rd person for exploring but 1st person for in cities and houses. RIM 13:01, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Vampire Lord Appearance
Its a little late for this, since i only heard about dawnguard a few days ago after the big release, but while the vampire lord may look cool, it bears high resemblance to Underworld's hybrid vampire/werewolf, wings/scythe arms on back, grey skin, really wierd features like stretched skin and some bits of skin having ripples etc, but i think thats a ltitle too far, vampires may be different looking in skyrim/elders scrolls lore but i dont think they should be so different looking, is the appearance/model final? and because of the things on the back would that mean they can fly? — Unsigned comment by 124.181.2.109 (talk) at 20:05 on 12 June 2012
- Hmm, I know what you mean, but there are quite a few differences regardless. The features of the face are much different, the wings are quite a bit smaller and it dosent have all those weird membrane thingys on his arms. And im about 193% certain that this is a final model, and no, they can't fly, just hover a little way off the ground. Vos 06:58, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
- There is nothing wrong with its appearance and I don't think it is copying markus because before underworld there was Bram stoker's Dracula, which had Dracula assume a demonic bat-like appearance in his true form (its a brief scene) and Van Helsing's Dracula had a demonic bat form as well, besides, markus did not have hair at all in hybrid form and his ears were not like that. It does indeed looks very good and cool, it is also a nice change. Vampires all have different vamp faces which usually is a distortion of the face and different eye colors but this is something new and refreshing and maybe it could mean that these vampires are either more powerful or are closer to the source than the others (just a theory)and as for flying, not sure if it is true but someone said you can glide for awhile by pressing LB. I would most certainly rather this than the near powerless/useless original vampires in skyrim. 217.137.157.197 01:14, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
- Whether intentional or not, the resemblance between Marcus in his hybrid form and the Vampire Lords here is extremely uncanny. The only differences I see are the wing shape, the ears not being flattened to the head like Marcus', and the Vampire Lord apparently having horns instead of hair. It doesn't bother me though, especially since vampires are supposed to have terrifying appearances anyway. Lord Nordeck 03:12, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
- Indeed there are similarities but it is sad that people have to always compare these type of forms to Markus all the time, vampires are connected to bats in some lore and fiction and therefore people have had vampires become demonic bat-like creatures, so Markus was not first and won't be the last. Crispin Grimes, Dracula in BS and VH all had winged bat-like forms and these three existed before Markus. The vampire does not have horns from what I can see, it has long white/grey hair and pointed ears, This is an excellent additions to vampires, at the least volkihars anyway and now they are finally more unique. Volkihars were near enough carbon copies of the Order before. 217.137.157.197 12:45, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

- Reminds me of the Legacy of Kain series, personally.
- Can I get a 'VAE VICTIS!' anyone? ~ SotiCoto 15:08, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
- It does remind me of kain a bit, due to the swept back white hair. At last, skyrim has true vampires and not just weak clones of the order. I will never forgive bethesda for that laziness XD but seriously vampires needed an upgrade, not only because they were too similar to the order but as the volkihar they were supposed to have some unique gifts. The Volkihar are actually a lot like Dracula type vampires which is very good and old school, Dracula was never hurt by the sun though it weakened him, he could turn into a demonic form, mist or a bat. I just hope werewolves are a little better, I was satisfied with them at first and I enjoy turning at will but the patch knocking the armour rating down and the lack of a monthly forced transformation (like the lore says) made it seem watered down from the old werewolf tales. I mean it can take only one arrow to kill you even if you're wearing a full set of armour. Mr.Scryer. 15:18, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
- Please take this kind of discussion to the forums. —Legoless 17:43, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
Vampire Lord and Vampires
Is the vampire lord a separate species from the vampires in skyrim? and would they even still register as undead or as vampires? i.e would they retain the ability to feed like normal, have fire/sun weakness, be seen by detect dead, get recognized by alva etc
or are they just an upgraded version of the current vampires? Obviously these questions cannot be answered yet but they are here ready for when dawnguard comes out.217.137.157.197 01:14, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Door bug
I saw gameplay for dawnguard, and it seems as if when in vampire lord form, your too big to pass through some doorways. should this be added as a bug? Trevor1324 00:01, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
- Yes it is annoying, but I think it is a pitfall of being in Lord form rather than a bug. I'm sure if this was truly a bug, then it would have been fixed during the beta. - Mulsivaas 00:09, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
- In the notes then? Trevor1324 00:10, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
- hey I added this into the main article aswell, but I found a fix for the doorway bug, if you simply turn your vampire so its wings are going through the doorway first you can get through pretty much all doorways, let me know if this works for you as it works for me 24/7 (Xbox) — Unsigned comment by 94.1.93.28 (talk) at 04:38 on 30 June 2012
Items
Should we add a section here to list the items that you can use when you are in Vampire Lord form? These are specific to the Vampire Lord form, so it would be helpful to reference them here.
I have found 4 so far:
Amulet of Bats - 'While wearing this amulet, Bats will drain life from any nearby enemies.'
Amulet of The Gargoyle - 'While wearing this amulet, your Summon Gargoyle spell summons an additional Gargoyle for 30 seconds.'
Ring of The Beast - 'While wearing this ring, you will receive 100 extra health and your claw attacks will do an additional 20 damage.'
Ring of the Erudite - 'While wearing this ring, you will receive 100 extra Magicka as well as regenerate Magicka faster.'
Skyrim Is Vampire Lord Good

Also, there is a bug on the Amulet of The Gargoyle: Serana turned hostile to the 2nd gargoyle and they fought to its death. She and the main gargoyle were not hostile to each other, though. Minotaur 07:38, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
- Where did you get these amulets? I haven't quite finished yet, so I am just wondering if it is loot or quest-specific. - Mulsivaas 14:23, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
- Quest specific, Feron asks you to retrieve them.Mr.Scryer. 21:15, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
Lord Harkon VS Regular Vampire Lords
His is a unique version of the Vampire Lord, can you get to that sort of 'regal' look? Is it quest specific (on how you progress through the Dawnguard Expansion) or how many perks you have under the Vampire Tree? --Tabber42 01:56, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
- Sadly it is unique to him and you are unable to get the 'regal' Vampire Lord look yourself --SPMcKinney 01:58, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Make people aware....
People should be aware that the EXTREMELY annoying vampire sunlight weaknesses are in effect for your character if you become a vampire lord. It would be tolerable if you could feed on the dead, and/or enemies in combat. You can feed at the castle at will... but it's in an extreme location, so after feeding, if you fast travel any appreciable distance, you'll arrive with sunlight weaknesses in force. I personally don't think it's worth playing, with all the added shenanigans you have to do to avoid the sun. — Unsigned comment by 24.60.50.70 (talk) at 04:04 on 3 July 2012
- After the finishing the quest line you can block out the sun. Also you don't have sunlight weakness when in Vampire Lord form. — Kimi the Elf(talk | contribs) 04:12, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
- The Weakness to Sunlight effect in this game is pitiful lol. How can you describe it as 'EXTREMELY annoying'? It does next to nothing. The worst part about it is the stunted regeneration, but that can be countered with enchanted gear or a potion. Even the perks that give bonus regeneration almost completely negate it.--77.103.237.230 23:17, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
Jenassa does not become hostile (possibly others as well)
It's been noted that NPCs will attack Vampire Lords on sight, even followers, friends, and spouses. I know this to be true since Delphine attacked when I used Vampire Lord to kill Sahloknir, but there are exceptions aside from the Castle Volkihar residents. (By the way, reverting and then yielding normally will cause friends to cease hostility). I transformed into a Vampire Lord in full view of Jenassa, and she remained nonhostile. She just equipped her bow and backed off while muttering a 'Huh?' (I found the sense of immersion in that incident to be sort of neat, but whatever). She still did not attack me when I ambushed the Imperial patrol a short walk away either. In fact, she fought with me. It could be that her morality setting means she simply does not care who you are or what you do, but it might be insightful to provide a list of exceptions to the rule. Just Cav 06:02, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
- Well that is neat cause my character is married to her I wonder if she'll react since we are married. This is a neat little development. --Lore Master 06:58, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
- You might be true, if an npc has a morality rating of 0 (any crime) they won't mind you changing (as it is considered a crime with a bounty). Perhaps this should be mentioned on the follower page. --Skyhirider 09:10, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
Crimes.
So Vampire Lords have the ability of werewolves where crimes committed in your transformed state are not attributed to your character. I know it may sound like a stupid question but I'd think it be on the main page.--65.128.185.190 08:46, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

Random Encounters
So I just re-started Dawnguard on the vampire side, and I noticed that when traveling in the wilderness, I have random encounters waaayy more frequently than normal. Is this something others are seeing, or just just a one-off? I know that these events are supposed to be random, so it could just be that by chance I happened to get several in a row, but I figured I'd check and see if anyone else noticed this as well. ABCface◥ 23:17, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, I've noticed that I tend to have a lot of random encounters, especially with Dawnguard and Mercenaries near Castle Volikhar. I've even had Dawnguard fight me on the castle's doorstep.PrometheusTheElf 03:29, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
- Hmm, I've only had one new one, I've just had the old ones a lot more often. Not really that important to gameplay, I just thought it was kind of weird. ABCface◥ 20:14, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
Copy advantages disadvantages from werewolves?
Should we just put all the disadvantages and advantages that are the same for these as werewolves? Like the no character menu, not being able to pick things up, infinite carry weight and so on. Lizard Man 20:57, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

Permanent Water-walking
Ok, so we all know about the Vampire Lords ability to walk on water, but has anyone else had a bug where, after changing back to normal, you can still walk on water? I mean, it IS sort of fun walking on water permanently, but I would like to try swimming every once in a while. Also, if anybody HAS had this, do you know of any fixes? --94.171.163.95 15:54, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
- I cannot seem to replicate this glitch. Even if I am standing on the water in Vampire Lord form, I automatically drop into the water and go into swim mode when I revert to normal. Try jumping, going onto land, and going into sneak mode to see if this fixes your problem. If not, transform into a Vampire Lord again, then transform back to normal when standing on land. If nothing else, fast traveling or otherwise loading into a new cell should fix it. Just Cav 09:46, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
I have the same problem, but I only just started Dawnguard and haven't even done the first quest. I was going around doing quests and then I suddenly realized that I was walking on water instead of swimming. Nothing I do fixes it. I've even tried to deactivate Dawnguard, but it's still a no-go. I did create a new character and they can swim, but I can't figure out what caused the permanent glitch. I will keep trying, but it seems too random.
Possible Bug when changing from Werewolf to Vampire Lord
So two things happened to me when I changed back a vampire in the castle. First off, I had this really weird blue shimmer, like when a spell is on you (i.e. oakflesh) that immediately went away when I changed into Vampire Lord form. Upon going into vampire lord form, Fura Bloodmouth attacked me. I tried to yield but it did not work. Then, I changed back into 'Human' form and everyone tried to kill me. Is this a one time thing or should I add it to the list of known bugs?
EDIT: Waited 24 hours and all went back to normal. — Unsigned comment by PrometheusTheElf (talk • contribs) at 04:42 on 11 July 2012

Vampire Lord Perks and Vampire Cure
So I decided to play a Vampire Lord for the Dawnguard and before I continued with the Dawnguard missions I went ahead and cured myself while Serana remained at Ft. Dawnguard. Before we faced Lord Harkon together, she continued to treat me as if I were a vampire. Now I wondered if you would loose all your perks once you cure yourself then become a Vampire Lord again. You don't, I still retain my max perk tree as if I were never cured at all. You can cure yourself or change back freely and still have the perks.
Now I need to see if I can get Valerica out of Soul Cairn after we wiped the floor with everyone and only lost the grumpy rude orc.--50.135.172.120 06:17, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
Vampire Lord perk progress crossover to Werewolf perk tree
I am thinking about adding this to the bug section. So I recently cured myself of being a Werewolf only to go back to being a Vampire lord. I've been playing around with it a lot more and I have noticed that there is sometimes a message on the top of my screen that says 'Heart consumed, Werewolf perk progress increased' even though I am a vampire lord. I will continue testing this, but I am fairly certain I get this message only when I am in close quarters combat (claw damage and Night Cloak damage). PrometheusTheElf 03:26, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Possible Bug: Vampire but Not
If you choose to become a Vampire Lord, you might encounter a bug. (PC)
1. If wearing hevnoraak then you can become a Vampire Lord, but the residents of Volikhar Castle will treat you as if your mortal, and the eye-change will not occur to your player.
2. If hevnoraak is even in your inventory, when you awaken from being bitten it has been equipped, with the same results as above.
3. (not sure if it will affect everyone else, but I have repeated it multiple times), If a redguard then the same symptoms of the above bug take effect.
This results in being unable to pursue the first quest of being a Vampire Lord, though it may be possible to work around it using the console. -Anyone else see this bug or know a way to fix it? — Unsigned comment by 58.165.42.135 (talk) at 06:16 on 5 August 2012

Can't transform into a vampire lord
Beat the Dawnguard side of the DLC. After it was over I had Serana turn me back in to a vampire. Frost Resist / Fire Weakness Glitch ?
So, i read that after becoming a vampire lord the resist/weakness becomes 20-30-40-50 instead of 25-50-75-100. However, my nord vamp lord character seems to be stuck with high weakness to fire value although the resist frost is updated to the new value. Regarding Serana and Drain Life
A quick look at the CK shows that the nerfed drain life damage for vampire lords when Serana is following is not a bug - it's a very specific conditional that Bethesda set. Should this be moved from bugs to notes? — Unsigned comment by 108.82.200.200 (talk) at 23:16 on 11 August 2012 (UTC)

vampirelord/werewolf hybrid.
it is possible to become a near perfect hybrid in the game. all you need to do is finish dawnguard. have serana as a follower, and be at the pool of blood at the companions quest line during the part that you become a werewolf. step 1) activate vampire lord power just before you drink the blood. if done right you should appear as a werewolf outside. but after a couple of seconds turn in to the vampire lord. step 2)immediately use the revert form power.step 3) have serana turn you in to a vampire lord again. steps 2-3 need to be done before you black out and wake up next to aela.step 4) enjoy being a hybrid. so far as i have seen there are no significant glitches. you can feed as both werewolf and vampire. all powers are there. as well as perk trees. but other than that it needs more exploration. thanks for listening this was discovered by raadashio on you tube. so please give credit. — Unsigned comment by 70.95.99.136 (talk) at 11:00 on 13 August 2012
Magic/Melee Mode Bug
During my first playthrough as a Vampire Lord, I accepted Lord Harkon's gift during the Bloodline quest and woke up in a room where he teaches you how to control your new powers. melee counts as sneaking
when i transformed my sneak skill was close to leveling up and when i went to melee i was (apparently) not detected by those around me and i leveled up (both sneak and base but that is just coincidence) please confirm Shadow 03:33, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yes. Successfully attacking an enemy while sneaking will result in you gaining Sneak skill XP. --XyzzyTalk 03:35, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
- wow that was quick should this be a bug, a advantage or a note Shadow 03:41, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
- It's already noted on the Sneak page. --XyzzyTalk 03:47, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
- Xyzzy, he is not talking about standard sneaking - Fire was meaning AFTER transforming he gained sneak xp. all of my characters are maxed sneak, can someone with DG please confirm this? (Go into melee form as a vampire lord and run around, see if you gain any sneak xp) Thanks!! Whispendtalk 02:52, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

Enhanced Dwarven Crossbows And Vampire Lord Rings In One Playthrough?

Test: Getting Enhanced Dwarven Crossbows And Becoming A Vampire Lord (w/ rings of blood magic) In One Playthrough
So i had an idea about how to get the Enhanced Dwarven Crossbow and then become a vampire lord. My idea is to initially join the dawnguard and do ancient technology all the way before doing chasing echoes. When given the opportunity to become a vampire lord before entering the soul cairn i intend to take it and go from there. I've never played through the dawnguard side of the dlc so i'm not sure if this next part will work but from there i intend to keep my vampire lord-ness and (if the game will let me) side with the vampires to get access to the castle as a home and also get the vampire side-quests (rings of blood magic mainly) I'm going to start testing this right now and it'd be great if someone could tell me if theres any holes in my plan. --71.17.19.249 23:44, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
- This does not work, the gate to the castle is closed and even if you use the console to get past the gate all the vampire inside are hostile towards you. On top of that becoming a vampire means that all the dawnguard will not talk to you either until you cure yourself. — Kimi the Elf(talk | contribs) 23:55, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
- Hmm...so you can get the two main bonuses for each faction (Upgraded crossbows/bolts and Vampire lord power) But it cuts you off from both factions? Well played bethesda...well played --71.17.19.249 00:15, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
- Actually, the Vampire Lord is easy to get regardless of the side you choose. To get the final c-bow, you must tell the volkihar 'No' when you get to the castle. This talk with Harkon is teh deciding point, between siding with the DG and the Volkihar. The DG give the bow, the Volkihar give the rings/amulets. If you want the bow, just finish the DG quest line, then talk to Serana, as she will change you into a Vampire Lord no matter who you side with at any point past Chasing Echoes. Whispendtalk 02:44, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yea, its already noted that serana can change you into a vampire. My point was that just because you become a vampire lord does not mean you can switch to the vampire side, and at the same time the dawnguard will no longer talk to you either. So it seems impossible to get both the dwarven crossbows and the vampire rings on the same play though. — Kimi the Elf(talk | contribs) 06:38, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
The Vampire Without The Looks
Hey, I'd like to get the perks and spells for the Vampire Lord, but I dislike the fact that the playermodel I've spent countless of hours on creating isn't showing, but instead this big ugly hovering clayman appears. So I thought, any ideas on how to override the Vampire Lord model with your playermodel, without changing every Vampire Lord in the game? I'd really like to get rid of that clayface. Basicly what I'm saying is; remove the looks from the 'race/class' just like a Werewolf without all the fur. Is that possible somehow? Like adding the spells, buffs and perks? Thanks in advance. — Unsigned comment by 62.107.46.37 (talk) at 19:08 on 19 August 2012 (UTC)
- Short answer: no. It might be possible to replace the Vampire Lord head with your character's head, but it wouldn't come out looking good. Unless you can find a modder who is up to the task, you're stuck with the clay man. —Legoless 19:13, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
- Heck even long answer no... you can't just use the playermodel because then EVERY animation would not match up... so you'd either have to then re-map every animation to work with a normal model, or be a vampire lord that didn' transform, which would just be redundant. Plus side, the player is the only Vampire Lord in teh game lol, so you wouldn't have to worry bout that :) Whispendtalk 02:22, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Vampire Lord is a lesser power added by the Dawnguardadd-on that allows players with vampirism to turn into a powerful Vampire Lord: a large humanoid creature with sharp claws and bat-like wings. In order to gain this ability, you must accept Lord Harkon's gift during the Bloodline quest or receive it from Serana after Chasing Echoes. She also offers the option to infect you after completing Destroying the Dawnguard or Kindred Judgment. The ability can be used an unlimited number of times per day and at any point during normal gameplay. While not in Vampire Lord form, you will still have all the characteristics of a normal vampire.
As a Vampire Lord, you will be able to use blood magic and other dark powers, and can either levitate and use spells or remain on the ground and fight with deadly claws. In Skyrim, only the more pure-blooded vampires such as those of Lord Harkon's court have this ability and, according to him, the family's vampirism was a gift directly from Molag Bal himself.
Accepting Harkon's gift will permanently align you with the Volkihar; the only way to become a Vampire Lord and side with the Dawnguard is to wait for the option to be infected by Serana.
- 1Vampire Lord Form
Vampire Lord Form[edit]
The Vampire Lord power has the following effects:
- You will retain the 'Vampire's Sight' ability from your ordinary vampirism, but all other effects are either removed for the duration of your Vampire Lord form or replaced with a Vampire Lord version of the same effect.
- Your health, magicka, and stamina increase by 100 points each.
- Magicka regenerates 2% faster.
- You gain the same unarmed damage as Khajiit and Argonians, and the same claws trait as a Khajiit, only at magnitude 20, not 12. This means non-Beastmen gain 6 unarmed damage, then non-Khajiit gain 20 unarmed damage and Khajiit gain 8 (final unarmed damage is 30 for all Vampire Lords, regardless of starting race).
- When outside during the day, your health, magicka, and stamina decrease by 60 points each.
- When outside during the day, health, magicka, and stamina regeneration is reduced by 90%.
- Ability to use the Vampire Lord version of Vampiric Drain, which has a Damage Health effect in addition to draining health, magicka, and stamina from your target (see details below).
- 'Vampire Claws' constant effect, which gives you additional health, magicka, and stamina, increased unarmed damage, damage resistance, and waterwalking (see table).
- 'Bats' special ability, which allows you to transform into a swarm of bats for two seconds in order to evade damage (costs 25 magicka).
- The Raise Dead spell (similar to the 'Vampire's Servant' spell granted with ordinary vampirism), which allows you to reanimate a fallen corpse to fight for you (see table).
While you are in Vampire Lord form, only the Amulet of Bats, Amulet of The Gargoyle, Ring of The Beast, or Ring of the Erudite can be used; all of your other equipment is removed automatically. You also will not be able to use your normal spells, dragon shouts, or powers, but your attacks increase in power and speed. You will move more quickly as well, but since the 'Vampire Claws' constant effect gives you the waterwalking ability, you cannot swim as a Vampire Lord. Once you transform, all summoned creatures (including dead thralls) will immediately die. Your racial abilities do not carry over into Vampire Lord form, but existing spell effects do. This includes passive abilities such as The Lord Stone, the Blessing of Mara, and the Magic Resistance perks from the Alteration skill tree. It also includes the Destruction Cloak spells and the Alteration Flesh spells.
Vampire Lords are dangerous, fearsome creatures, and you will be attacked on sight if you are seen in this form. However, since NPCs will not recognize you, crimes committed in Vampire Lord form will not be attributed to you and will not increase your bounty. If you are seen transforming, 1000 gold will be added to your bounty.
The world was not built for Vampire Lords, so you may get stuck in some small doorways while in this form. To avoid this, try turning sideways so that your wings go through the doorway first. In most cases, you can get through. When all else fails, the Bats ability will get you out of tight jams fairly well.
While in Vampire Lord form, you can choose to either levitate or walk normally; you can only cast your spells while levitating, and will need to stop levitating in order to fight with your claws. When levitating, your right hand is automatically equipped with the Vampiric Drain spell and cannot be changed. Your left hand is used for your blood magic spells, such as Summon Gargoyle or Raise Dead. By bringing up the in-game favorites menu, you can switch the spell in your left hand and your active vampire power. You will take damage as normal from long falls while in levitation mode.
To descend to the ground and enter melee mode, press the sneak button. In this mode, you fight using your claws in a similar fashion to werewolves. You can also perform a 'power bite' attack that will count toward your perk progress in the Vampire perk tree. To perform a power bite, use a power attack against a humanoid target when their health is extremely low. The power bite will not work if you do not have enough stamina to perform the attack, and it will work on any NPCs (including other vampires), but not on creatures. You can switch between modes as often as necessary while in this form. Your active vampire power can be used in either mode by pressing the shout button, though powers must be briefly recharged before they can be used again.
You will have a forced third-person view while you are a Vampire Lord, and you will not be able to access character menus or maps. Opening the character menu will open the Vampire perk tree instead of your normal menus. You will not be able to pick up any items or start conversations, but you can activate switches (such as levers and pull chains) to progress through dungeons (though you will be unable to interact with objects preventing the use of switches, e.g. the bones or scraps that must be removed to use certain switches in Raldbthar Deep Market).
You can use the 'Revert Form' ability to return to your normal form at any time. If you have summoned a gargoyle while in Vampire Lord form, it will not disappear when you use Revert Form.
Abilities[edit]
Unlike regular vampire abilities, which are determined by the stage of your vampirism, Vampire Lord abilities and enhancements are level-dependent. The following abilities are granted automatically by the Vampire Lord form, along with the Bats ability, which is the same regardless of your level. Other powers and spells can be added by unlocking perks in the Vampire skill tree.

Skill Perks[edit]
While in Vampire Lord form, you will have access to a unique skill tree with perks that makes your special abilities more powerful. You gain progress to your next Vampire Lord perk by defeating enemies with Vampiric Drain or a 'power bite' attack. The Vampiric Drain attack counts toward a perk when it kills living creatures other than rabbits and foxes. Non-living creatures, such as undead, constructs, or summoned creatures do not give any progress gains.
Each new perk requires a few more kills than the last. The first perk requires 5 kills with Vampiric Drain or a 'power bite' attack, the second 6, the third 9, and the fourth 10; after that, each new perk requires two more kills than the last (up to 24 required to progress from the 10th perk to the 11th). You will need to feed a total of 156 times to complete the entire tree.

Reactions[edit]
If you wander around Volkihar Keep in Vampire Lord form, some of the inhabitants may comment on it:
Speaker | Comment |
---|---|
Feran Sadri | I find it tiring to converse with someone in that form. Too much effort. |
Fura Bloodmouth | Parading around in that form won't do you any good here. |
Garan Marethi | Yes, yes. Aren't you lovely looking like that. Do you mind? |
Hestla | It's difficult to have a conversation with you like that. Would you mind changing back? |
Orthjolf | You realize that doesn't impress anyone here. |
Rargal Thrallmaster | Mind yourself in that form. Don't go damaging my thralls. |
Ronthil | I hope you're not trying to lord your abilities over me. |
Vingalmo | You realize it's not really necessary to take on that form here. |
Achievements[edit]
One achievement is related to being a Vampire Lord:
- Vampire MasteredDG (20 points/Bronze) — Acquire 11 vampire perks
- There are 11 available perks, so all of the vampire perks must be unlocked for this achievement.

Notes[edit]
- Unarmed damage, armor, and attribute bonuses are affected by the Necromage perk. This means that at level 46, with the Power of the Grave perk, you will gain 312.5 (437.5 with the Ring of the Erudite) magicka, 375 (500 with the Ring of The Beast) health and 187.5 stamina.
- The Night Cloak perk heals you for the amount of damage dealt. It also stacks if there are multiple enemies surrounding you. It should be noted that the bats only appear when an enemy comes in close to you and they will disappear sometime after there is no enemy around anymore.
- Vampiric Grip has a very long potential range, but with no projectile to track, aiming at a distant target can be difficult. For best results, point the crosshair at a humanoid target's head, and position yourself so there are no obstacles even partially in the way.
- Vampiric Grip allows for easy kills against tough opponents by utilizing surrounding drops and cliffs. Drawing an opponent towards you before launching them off a cliff will result in an easy kill.
- Your skin will become dark and cloudy if you don't feed for a while.
- When transforming into Vampire Lord form, first your maximum health will be increased, then you will gain the bonus from the Power of the Grave perk, then you will gain the additional attributes (based on your level). This means you will be able to heal when transforming (up to 300 health at level 46).
- You will not lose any Vampire Lord perks if you cure yourself of vampirism and then ask Serana to restore it.
- The only time you will ever face another Vampire Lord in combat is during the quest Kindred Judgment.
- Vampire Lords were originally developed as part of the Game Jam. They had the ability to summon imp minions.
- If you choose to become a vampire in the middle of being with the Dawnguard, you will have to cure yourself before being accepted back into the Dawnguard ranks.
- For best results when using the power bite attack, your opponent should be standing, not blocking, and you should be still and directly face your target or be directly behind your target. Your opponent can attack you and the bite will still work, and the range of the attack is unknown.
- At one point during development it was planned for the Vampire Lord form to last only for a limited time span, akin to werewolves. Audio with Lord Harkon advising you about this was recorded but for obvious reasons not implemented in the final release.
Bugs[edit]
- When first changing into the Vampire Lord and entering spell mode, the Raise Dead spell that is automatically equipped to the left hand may not work on any creature or person.
- Equipping the spell from the Favorites menu will fix this.
- If you use the Revert Form power, and then use a perk before returning to non-vampire form, you will retain the Vampiric Drain spell in the right hand, which still leads to skill increase for the Vampire Lord form if used to kill enemies, but NPCs will not be hostile to you.
- This can be easily fixed by equipping a spell or a weapon in the right hand.
- Sometimes when you are made a Vampire Lord by either Harkon or Serana you will not be able to use the Vampire Lord power to turn into one.
- This can by fixed by typing
set dlc1vampirelorddisallow to 0
in the console.
- This can by fixed by typing
- The
showracemenu
face complexion choice applies the selected change, but the choice does not save in many cases and is reset to a default on the next load. Only the last three complexions available work for a Vampire Lord. - Sometimes when changing into a Vampire Lord, you cannot switch to melee mode, use the Revert Form ability, or use any spells.
- Using Revert Form may cause you to lose your vampirism.
- When you revert back to normal form, the game will try to equip the armor and/or clothing you were wearing, but may equip similar items instead (e.g. an unimproved pair of Vampire Boots instead of your tempered, enchanted pair), and won't equip your jewelry.
- When using the Amulet of the Gargoyle, if the 'extra' gargoyle dies before the main one, its corpse may persist for some seconds, and will be lootable. ?
- Sometimes while in Vampire Lord form, the game will indicate getting werewolf progress as you kill people.
- Sometimes the bounty from transforming into a Vampire Lord will not disappear after killing all of the nearby witnesses.
- The Khajiit lesser power Night Eye is removed from the Favorites list after each transformation.
- When Harkon gives you the vampire lord form his bite may kill you, forcing you to return to a previous save.
- Sometimes the roar sound from transforming into a vampire lord fails to play.
- While in Vampire Lord form, if game is saved and then later loaded, you may be stuck in Vampire Lord form and unable to cast spells or use powers. (revert power selected prior to save, unable to change/use power)
- When you become Vampire Lord for the first time and you have all perks enabled, you may experience that certain perks that stack points no longer function. This can be fixed by saving your game while in normal form and reloading. ?
- Becoming Vampire Lord or reverting form does not affect the hostility of the NPCs in Thieves Guild.
- Although killing undead enemies with Vampiric Drain isn't supposed to count, killing draugr, Nightingale ghosts in the thieves' guild questline, and other vampires will still advance your perk progress.
- While in possession of the Vampire Lord lesser power, hoods may become invisible and permanently reveal most of the player character's scalp. Loading an earlier save is the only known way to fix this.
- If you use conjure sword/dagger in both hands before transforming into a vampire lord, then before reverting, select a spell in the favorite menu while a vampire lord and use it before reverting, you will have the same spells you had equipped from the vampire lord form in your default form. ?
- The additional Gargoyle summoned by the Amulet of the Gargoyle will advance progress towards your next Vampire Lord perk if killed by the player. ?
